FIELD GUIDE ENTRY
Mothman
Winged figure with glowing red eyes
DESCRIPTION
A humanoid figure with large wings and glowing red eyes, first widely reported around Point Pleasant, West Virginia in the 1960s. Often described as standing 6 to 7 feet tall with a wingspan far wider, capable of sustained flight without visibly flapping its wings.
BEHAVIOR
Sightings are frequently linked to a sense of dread in witnesses and, in folklore, treated as an omen preceding disaster. Mothman is typically seen briefly at night, near industrial sites, bridges, or open fields, before flying off.
REPORTED HABITAT & LOCATIONS
Open fields, abandoned industrial buildings, and areas near bridges or rivers. Sightings cluster in the Ohio River Valley but have been reported more broadly across the eastern US.
