Winged, hoofed creature of the Pine Barrens
DESCRIPTION
A creature native to the folklore of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, described as having a horse-like or goat-like head, bat wings, hooves, and a long, forked tail. One of the oldest continuously reported cryptids in the US, with stories dating back over two centuries.
BEHAVIOR
Reported as a fast-moving, shrieking presence heard more often than seen, usually at night in dense pine forest. Associated with a distinctive high-pitched scream and hoof-shaped tracks in mud or snow.

The Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey specifically, a large, sparsely populated forest region with a long documented history of regional sightings.
